Jewish United Fund
The Jewish United Fund (JUF) is a prominent philanthropic organization dedicated to serving the diverse needs of the Jewish community and beyond—in Chicago and around the world. Founded in 1900, JUF has a longstanding mission to enhance Jewish life, provide humanitarian assistance, and foster social justice. Jewish Chicago (previously JUF News) is JUF’s print and digital publication—with the largest circulation of any Jewish publication in the Midwest. With over 200,000 readers, it captures all aspects of Jewish lifestyle in Chicago and around the world.

Notes
The Jewish United Fund was a key provider of humanitarian assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. While its funds and services had been previously been funneled to its traditional areas, COVID-19 threw us a curveball and there was a lot of reallocation that needed to be done. To show its commitment to the community, I designed a multi-page booklet that was inserted with our Jewish Chicago publication that described the impact JUF made within the first year of the pandemic. It was mailed to all JUF donors within an issue of JUF News.

Jewish Chicago (previously JUF News) is JUF’s print and digital publication—with the largest circulation of any Jewish publication in the Midwest. With over 200,000 readers, it captures all aspects of Jewish lifestyle in Chicago and around the world. I directed the overall cover design and special section design for the May 2021 issue of JUF News. COVID-19 had just past the one year mark, and spring weather was making our home-bound, masked-up community eager to step outside and breathe in the “fresh air”. All about wellness for the body and mind, I designed a cover that was focused on anything but COVID-19. I wanted to inspire and excite those who were ready to remove the mask and get back to anything “normal”.

The JUF Women’s Philanthropy (previously Women’s Division) is an organization within the Jewish United Fund whose members are from around Chicago and the greater Chicago area. This group of dedicated women make a tremendous impact within the community and support causes not limited to women’s issues. The goal of this assignment was to spread the word and recruit new members for Women’s Philanthropy. To do this, we created a video using motion graphics to display the large number of women who are already making an impact from the city to the suburbs. We intertwined images of these women within a mixture of recognizable Chicago and suburban landmarks in a “paper pop up” carousel motion.

For use within the greater Chicagoland Early Childhood Collaborative, I was tasked with the creation of a tool for Jewish education leaders and educators to help evaluate themselves and their staff during times of reflection and review. The original ask was to create a paper booklet, but it did not seem like a functional or sustainable piece for the way it would be used. They needed something small, that could withstand wear and tear and could be manipulated in ways that might suit individuals differently. I created a notecard sized ring of laminated cards, separated by tabs and color coded to easily flip to and find any section quickly. The ring can also open to reorganize and remove cards as needed.
